We Can Love!

Read Thessalonians 5:1-11

In order to regain the faith of the Thessalonian church after being tested by sudden deaths of believers, Paul wrote an epistle to them. He gave them an assurance that both the dead and the living believers will be saved at the second coming of Jesus Christ. Christians are destined not for wrath but for salvation when Christ returns.

As we wait to the second coming of Jesus, we are to live according to the Word of God. Paul says we should wear faith and love to protect us, and the hope of salvation should be our helmet (v. 8). He echoed what he wrote to the Corinthians saying, “faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love (1 Cor 13:13).” The fundamental mark of Christian life is love. We are created to love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our mind and with all our strength (Mark 12:30). We live out and obey God’s word not out of compulsion but because of our love for him. We are called to love your neighbor as we love our self (Mark 12:31). We can love because we have been loved and we are always loved by our God.
