and your right hand sustains me;
your help has made me great.
In a lot of scripture accounts, we’ve seen how the saving help of God has been David’s shield. He fought Goliath with no fear because he knows God will protect him. God also preserved him and gave him victories in his battles. More than that, David knows that God is his shield from all sins.
David also acknowledged how God sustained him. Perhaps David is referring on how God preserved him physically, emotionally, and spiritually. David experienced God’s support and comfort in times of distress and hardships and the fresh grace of God every day.
Today, let us remember how God delivered us, sustained us, and preserved us in the past, especially when we feel so low, rejected, or hopeless. David also sees himself low, but it is God who made him great. When God sent Samuel to Jesse for He has chosen one of his sons to be the next king, it seems like none of them expected that the youngest son, David, will be anointed with oil. God rejected David’s older siblings and chose David. Our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The God who has been faithful and full of grace to us in the past is the same God who will help us and make us great as we deepen our relationship with Him.
