Read Psalm 85
Psalm 85 is a community lament that occurs when God has shown his displeasure with the unfaithfulness of his people. This is perhaps when the Israelites realized that the fruitfulness from their soil is being withheld because of their wrongdoings. The people called for God and sang songs of forgiveness. They’re asking God to show once again His steadfast love and faithfulness to them. They are praying for revival and restoration.
The Israelites do not know what will happen next, but they are confident that God will hear their prayer and will give them what they asked. They believed. They anchor their hope in the character of God in keeping His promises.
Sometimes we doubt God will answer our prayers because what we are doing for Him is not enough, or perhaps because we are sinful and we are thinking God will never put his attention to the prayers of a sinful man. Like the Israelites, we have to believe. We have to believe that Jesus died on the cross for our salvation. Be encouraged to believe that the gift of salvation is for you too, that God loves you despite all your mess and brokenness. Believe that God is not giving up on you and that He has a purpose for you.
What do you believe about who you are in Christ?
