Let It Be Done - Daily Devotion

Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment. — Matthew 8:13

Bible Reading: Matthew 8:5-13

Our scripture is Jesus’s response to the faith of the Roman centurion who asked him to heal his servant at home. Jesus asked him, “Shall I come and heal him?” But the answer of the centurion amazed Jesus. The centurion said, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it (vv. 8-9).”

The centurion recognizes Jesus’ spiritual power. He recognized Jesus’ ultimate authority, and that He could command things to be done and completed even when He was not present. The centurion’s grasp of Jesus’ spiritual authority astounds Jesus. His faith was free of any superstitious reliance on only outward things, as evidenced by his straightforward belief in the ability of Jesus’ mere word to heal. This was genuinely remarkable faith, deserving of praise.

What are you believing in God for next year? What are prayers and hopes you have? Like the centurion, may you also have a great faith and confidence in the power of Jesus.

Pray and believe.
