It Is We who extol the Lord

It is not the dead who praise the Lord,
those who go down to the place of silence;
it is we who extol the Lord,
both now and forevermore.—Psalm 115:17-18

Read Psalm 115:16-18

Ayn and I recently returned from a four-day retreat at Nature’s Healing Home in La Union, Philippines. The program includes meditative exercises such as yoga, varieties of meditation, Tai Chi, and breathing exercises. My two favorite exercises are the sunrise bowing meditation and the sunset meditation. I can’t help but praise the magnificence and majesty of God whenever we conduct those meditations. Feeling the sun’s beams on my skin in the morning and witnessing its beauty fade away in the sunset taught me to appreciate God’s creation even more. Nature is an easy way to understand how beautiful God is by looking at His creation.

God is worthy of all praise. The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men (v. 16). God reigns the skies and has entrusted the ground to us as His offspring. The psalmist says, “It is not the dead who praise the Lord… it is we who extol the Lord, both now and forevermore (v.17-18).” God’s praises must never fail among us, now or forever. It should come naturally to our lips. Forever and ever, let us exclaim “Hallelujah” to the Lord!

The greatness of God is all around us.
