A Great Confession

Lord, great and awesome God, you who keep your merciful covenant toward those who love you and observe your commandments! - Daniel 9:4
Recently at mass, Fr. Ed mentioned that Daniel 9:4-10 is a great confession to our God: “We have sinned, been wicked and done evil; we have rebelled and departed from your commandments and your laws. We have not obeyed your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name and to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all the people of the land. O Lord, we are shamefaced for having sinned against you. But yours, O Lord, our God are compassion and forgiveness” (V.4-10).
Despite the contempt of sin, Daniel does not get stuck in the shame or guilt of sin, instead recalls God’s steadfast love and mercy. Daniel strength to serve the Lord comes from God’s love and mercy. Daniel encourages us to seek the Lord, the one who specializes in brokenness. Embrace God’s infinite mercy through a contrite heart, forgive yourself and rejoice as you walk for the Lord on His path to salvation.
