“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” - Ephesians 5:18
Read Ephesians 5:15-20
What exactly does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit? For people who have been born again, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit may have been their first and most significant encounter with the filling of the Holy Spirit. This is a genuine and meaningful experience for every believer. However, the Holy Spirit’s fullness is not a one-time occurrence. It involves experiencing God on a regular basis through the Holy Spirit’s constant filling, persistent praying to be filled, and repeated faith-filled reception of the Spirit’s fullness. It’s something God wanted to do in our lives for the rest of life.
Weakness in the face of temptation and defeat in spiritual conflicts are signs that we aren’t being filled with the Holy Spirit on a regular basis. We must first be empty before we can be full. We lose control and yield to God in the emptying, allowing Him to have His will and way. We are filled with the Spirit when we serve God and seek to know Him.
The Holy Spirit’s work is to make Jesus beautiful to us. That is being filled with the spirit, when we individually feel God’s love regardless of our circumstances. The Holy Spirit emphasizes God’s goodness, love, and mercy.
Are you hungry for the Spirit?
